MAHB starts with the perspective that the science is good that we have real problems with the globe and its ecology. But what is unexplored sufficiently is the social, political and psychological circumstances. MAHB currently has two foci. • Help sustainability efforts be more successful by being more strategic? • Why are we so stuck? This means institutions and people. MAHB wants to enlist the humanities, social sciences and the arts in both. MAHB starts with For ten thousand years humanity has moved through time organized in empires. They conflict, they organize status and ambition, they use technology, and they fight, they increase population and devastate the adjoining land. The Enlightenment was a serious move to end the repression of monarchies. The belief in human initiative, freedom from constraints on thinking, belief in reason as a way to improve the human conditions, is a good starting point and MAHB does so. But the enlightenment itself had excesses of zeal and fostered its own authoritarian governments and too rabid a belief in materiality with a loss of concern and understanding of the life worth living. |
