This should have been Obama’s weekend – to move. Instead the pages of the NYT are covered with crisis, but no Obama.
On Israel “makes his situation more complex.” No. it clarifies it and gave him a window to act. The US has the leverage to demand that Israel stop the settlements and move toward a two state solution with dignity. But they won’t, if he does not force it.
On Oil “obama distances himself from BP.” He shouldn’t he should get closer, inside and active. However god the technicians – and the deserve a lot of credit probably the management is corrupt to the core, and Obama should have this weekend nationalized it. (seized US assets, entered into a strong relationship with the new prime minister to change the game.
On the economy. It is still being given away to the bankers. Enough. Every possible executive order should have been used, and leadership to take back the country from the banks. worse, we nee leadership on green, on keeping ahead of Germany and China on green tech initiatives. And its the only way to get jobs. Forceful Manhattan Project to cope with energy, climate and jobs. Leave out climate. Energy and jobs and the regreening of the country and the international economy. The business front page? No mention of Obama on any issue.
On Health, Iran, Korea, Afghanistan – where is the President? You think health is finished? It has just begun if the goals are to be achieved. This bill needs to be rewritten. Nothing. I believe that this weekend was his big chance. A weekend with significance. More somber than July 4 will be – and nothing. Absence. Silenced.
